Create a Profile README and Pin Your Best Repositories to Stand Out
Make your new GitHub account look professional immediately. Create a special repository named exactly after your username (e.g., yourusername/yourusername), set it to Public, and add a README.md file. This README appears at the top of your profile page.
Include a short bio, your tech stack using shield badges from shields.io, and links to deployed projects. Then pin 4-6 of your best repositories using the Customize your pins option on your profile.
Use meaningful commit messages like feat: add user authentication. Tag repos with topic keywords like #python or #react to make them discoverable.
Execution intent: this page targets the Github Accounts Create a Profile README and Pin Your Best Repositories to Stand Out scenario with a ready-to-use checklist.

Authenticate API Requests with a Personal Access Token to Avoid Rate Limiting
New GitHub accounts hitting the API without authentication get only 60 requests per hour, leading to constant 403 errors. Fix by creating a Personal Access Token: Settings > Developer settings > Personal access tokens > Fine-grained tokens.
Pass it via header Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN. Authenticated users get 5,000 requests per hour.
Check remaining quota via x-ratelimit-remaining response header, or call GET /rate_limit which does not count against your limit. If you still hit secondary rate limits, implement exponential backoff. Never embed tokens in client-side code.

GitHub New Account: First Session Settings That Avoid Risk Flags
Issue:
GitHub first login can be flagged by rapid environment switches and weak recovery setup.
What to do:
1. Add recovery email and passkey or 2FA at first session.
2. Use one stable IP region during initial access period.
3. Create a small repository action first, then continue normal workflow.
Result:
Risk checks become less frequent and login continuity stays stable.

GitHub Verification Mismatch: Fast Device-Region Recovery Steps
Symptom:
GitHub login fails with device or region mismatch warnings.
Fix path:
1. Reset password once, then stop repeated retries.
2. Complete all pending verification challenges in one session.
3. Retry from the same timezone and browser profile.
Expected outcome:
Most temporary lockouts clear without further escalation.
